The Mississippi Recycling Coalition (MRC) has reached the time year again for our annual membership renewal, and we hope we can count on the support of our members and sponsors in 2017, our 20th year in service to Mississippi! We also invite those individuals and organizations committed to responsible solid waste management through source reduction, reuse and recycling that are not yet members to join the MRC today! Our members make the work of the MRC possible. We thank all of the members who have supported us over the years, and we encourage new members to partner with us as we continue our efforts to educate residents on the benefits of recycling and promote the growth of the recycling industry in Mississippi.
Through your membership, you enable the MRC to maintain our sponsorship and promotion of various state recycling projects and events including the funding of student scholarships and school recycling grants, the recognition of excellence in recycling in the state, and the education of our citizens on the importance of recycling to Mississippi.
(JACKSON, MS) – The Mississippi Recycling Coalition (MRC) is pleased to announce the 2016 Environmental Hero Award recipients honoring outstanding recycling programs and organizations in the state. Each year, MRC seeks nominations of organizations, businesses, agencies, schools, and local governments from around the State of Mississippi that have excelled in their recycling and materials management program efforts. The nominees are evaluated based on the success of their recycling efforts including promotion and outreach, the duration and extent of their recycling program, their overall environmental stewardship, and the manner in which recycling has improved community waste handling and environmental practices.
(JACKSON, MS) – The Mississippi Recycling Coalition (MRC) is pleased to recognize one of Mississippi’s outstanding young people for her efforts to increase and promote recycling in her community. The Coalition recently presented Ms. Becca Blair of Brandon, MS with a “Recycling Star” Award at a ceremony at the State Capitol Building coinciding with the organization’s Recycling Awareness Day. Becca, age 9, resides with her family in Brandon, MS near the Ross Barnett Reservoir where she has worked to promote and grow recycling in her community. From a very young age, Becca’s family instilled in her the importance of conserving our natural resources and being good stewards of the environment. Along with her family, Becca has been a faithful volunteer with the Keep the Reservoir Beautiful organization since she was only 3 years old.
The Mississippi Recycling Coalition (MRC) invites you to join us on Thursday, March 2, 2017, from 12:30 PM – 4:00 PM at the State Capitol for our Annual Recycling Awareness Day with our State Legislature. This year the MRC and Keep Mississippi Beautiful are joining together to co-sponsor an Ice Cream Social for our Legislators and staff in the First-Floor Rotunda of the Capitol Building. MRC will also use this opportunity to provide information and network with Legislators on the significant economic impacts that the recycling industry brings to our state. In addition, MRC plans to recognize the “Recyclers of the Year” in the State for 2016 during the event with our annual “Environmental Hero” awards. We will also be recognizing a very special young lady, Miss Becca Blair, who made bringing recycling to her neighborhood in Rankin County, Mississippi her personal mission.
Durable recyclable bins are available free to government agencies, civic organizations, schools and nonprofit groups through the Public Space Recycling Bin Grant Program offered by the Coca-Cola Foundation and Keep America Beautiful. The deadline to apply is Oct. 7.
