trc logoThe Tennessee Recycling Coalition will be hosting a workshop entitled Recycling at a Major University on August 13, 2015 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the Administration Building on the Univeristy of Memphis campus. The workshop will cover the University of Memphis' system of recycling at a large university and how that can be applied to any size of school or business. Personal lessons learned, as well as some great ideas for outreach and promotional ideas about recycling will be shared. There is a $25 registration fee for non-TRC members and you may register for the workshop on TRC's website.

April 2015 Jackson Business Ewaste Collection Day

JxnEWDateLocationThe Jackson Chamber Partnership, Magnolia Data Solutions, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, and others, have partnered togother to offer the bi-annual Jackson Business E-Waste Collection Day. The event will be held from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Mississippi Farmers Market located at 929 High Street in Jackson, MS. There will be fee to recycle televisions ($15) and monitors ($5) to cover the costs of proper handling the hazardous components of these devices which can contain lead and mercury. SWANA Presents Recycling Training in New Orleans

SWANA LogoThe Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) will be offering training opportunities for recycling professionals at the organization’s upcoming SWANApalooza event in New Orleans in March. SWANA will be offering its three-day training course on managing recycling systems as a part of its larger Spring Training and Exam Center. The “Managing Recycling Systems” training course will be offered March 16-19, 2015 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel. The training course provides instruction on planning a recycling program, developing and researching recycling markets, collection systems for recyclable materials, processing of recyclables, planning an education and outreach program, establishing and managing contracts for recycling, funding the recycling program, applying end-user standards and quality requirements for recycled products and managing recycling programs to protect human health and the environment

Fall Conference Reminder

We want to remind you that the Mississippi Recycling Coalition is holding its Fall Mini-Recycling Conference, next Tuesday, October 28th, from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at the Trustmark Conference Center at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. As an important part of Mississippi's recycling community, we need you there! We hope you are planning to join us as we discuss the opportunities that communities and businesses have to enhance and improve recycling programs. We have a number of excellent speakers scheduled to present. You will also have the opportunity to network with recyclers and local governments across the state and to tour the State's Sports Hall of Fame. Be sure to wear your favorite team's colors to the meeting!

2014 Conference Lodging Options

If you are planning to attend Sustaining Recycling in Mississippi: Developing Our Game Plan, there are several possible lodging options within a few miles of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum for attendees to consider. The closest options, at this time, appear to be the Best Western Plus Flowood Inns & Suites, Econo Lodge Inns & Suites, or America's Best Inns & Suites on Treetops Boulevard and Cabot Lodge Milsaps on State Street near Woodrow Wilson. Additional lodging options are available by zooming out on the map below or clicking on "View on Google Maps."

Please note, attendees that choose to stay at the Cabot Lodge Milsaps cannot access Lakeland from the Woodrow Wilson entrance on I-55. They should access Lakeland Drive by driving north on State Street to Old Canton Road (at the fork by the University of Mississippi Medical Center, go right) and then take a right at the light onto Lakeland.

    News and information regarding the 2013 Mississippi College and University Recycling Summit to be held at the McGowan Workforce Training Center on the Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus July 18, 2013.  The Summit agenda will be released shortly.

    We are asking each college to share about their recycling programs or desires to start a program. If you would like to share pictures, handouts, or a brief presentation about your program, please email us at While we would prefer to get your pictures, handout, or presentation in advance, you may also bring them with you on a flash or other removable drive.

    Northbound on I-55:

    Take Exit 105B, Ridgeland. You will have to turn right at the top of the exit and follow the common directions below.

    Southbound on I-55:

    Take Exit 105B, Ridgeland/Old Agency Road. At the top of the exit ramp, turn left. After crossing the interstate and passing the light for the entrance ramp, follow the common directions below.

    Common Directions:

    At the first red light, turn left onto Sunnybrook Road. Stay straight on Sunnybrook until the next red light and turn right onto Ridgeland Avenue. Turn left at the entrance adjacent to Fire Station #2 and follow to the northern-most parking lot. If parking is full in this parking lot, you may park in the lot adjacent to the McGowan Center on the west (left as following these directions) side of the building.

    We will be in Room 130 which is off of the center lobby.
